Frequently Asked Questions
Does hypnotherapy always work?
Like any form of therapy, there are no guarantees. It’s about finding the right therapy for you. Hypnotherapy is a very powerful form of therapy though and has a much higher success rate if you’re committed to helping yourself change.
What does hypnosis feel like? Will I actually be asleep?
You will not be asleep or awake, but somewhere in the middle. You will be in a state in which all your natural senses will be around 30% more efficient than usual.
Will I be in control?
You will be FULLY AWARE of what is going on at ALL times. At no point will you not be in control. And I am not able to make you do things against your will.
Can you hypnotise me?
Yes. Every human being can be hypnotised with the following 3 exceptions.
- Young children under the age of 5
- The severely mentally disturbed
- People who choose not to be hypnotised
People go into different depths of hypnosis, but hypnotherapy can be of benefit to everyone.
What if I don't wake up?
Saying this to a hypnotherapist is rather like saying, "I won't wash my hair because what if it doesn't dry". In other words, the scenario is just not possible. If after putting someone into a hypnotic trance, the hypnotist drops dead, one of two things will happen.
1) The subject will immediately wake up or "shock waken"
2) The subject will fall into a normal sleep and wake up when they are ready.
Will I blurt out all of my personal secrets?
No, you will always be in control of everything you say and do.
Where is your practice?
I have a treatment room at St James Hair & Beauty, 3 Abbeydale Road South, Sheffield S7 2QL. This room is comforting, warming and the ideal environment for your hypnotherapy.
Do you do home visits?
Some issues may need me to visit your home instead. Some anxieties or phobias may make it difficult to leave your home so home treatment may initially be better for you. Please call me and we can discuss further.
Can you deliver my sessions online?
I can deliver your hypnotherapy sessions over Zoom, so distance is not a problem. These can be just as effective as a one-to-one session in person.
Where do you cover?
I’m based in Sheffield and generally cover the surrounding towns and cities in the Yorkshire/Derbyshire area. If you’re further away and unable to reach my clinic, I can deliver sessions online instead.
How long will treatment last?
This is like asking how long a piece of string is. Everyone is different and every issue is different. Some problems such as mild phobias may only need a handful of sessions. Whereas more complex issues such as addiction will need a longer course of treatment to be more successful.
