Hypnotherapy for Stress
Using hypnotherapy for stress and anxiety can help significantly in coping with everyday life. Whilst feeling the effects of stress is natural, it can vary in severity. Feelings such as being overwhelmed, worry and fear are reactions we all experience. But when those feelings become more intense, affecting your actions and how you live your life, it can be the sign to take action.
It’s often a build-up of small, subtle problems like work-related stress or financial worries that lead to ongoing, or chronic, stress. Feeling stressed for long periods of time takes its toll on both your mental and physical health. And whilst you can’t always control the stressful events and situations you experience, you can control our reactions to them.
Around 77% of people experience stress that affects their physical health.
There are several techniques available to help deal with stress including cognitive behavioural therapy. Hypnotherapy for stress is also a common treatment and works well alongside CBT. Hypnotherapy aims to identify the root cause of the problem and change your relationship with stress, enabling you to cope more effectively.
Benefits of Using Hypnosis for Stress
Hypnosis reduces stress through relaxation and visualisation techniques. This encourages a change in your perspective and how you feel and react to situations and triggers, so you can focus on the positive aspects of your life.
Using hypnotherapy for stress will give you:
- more focused attention
- better emotional control in triggering situations
- more confidence and less worrying about decisions
- better sleep and mindset
Cost of Hypnotherapy for Stress
The number of sessions you need will depend on the severity and complexity of the problems causing your stress. You may only need a couple of sessions to understand why you feel as you do and learn techniques to help you cope, but you may need more sessions to get to where you feel happy and confident in dealing with stress. Hypnotherapy isn’t a one-time fix – it’s a longer term form of therapy that can really help to change your mindset and enable you to cope with triggering situations.
How Does Hypnotherapy for Stress Work?
Depending on your level of stress, hypnotherapy can be a standalone treatment. It is often combined with another technique such as cognitive behavioural therapy.
If you suffer with chronic or long-term stress, hypnosis works best when used as a complementary treatment alongside another treatment such as CBT or counselling.
Hypnotherapy works for stress by helping to identify your stress triggers. By using suggestion during hypnosis I can help to retrain your thought patterns to help you manage those feelings when in triggering situations, to make you feel more positive and able to cope.
This technique works by enabling the suggestions or calming words to enter your conscious mind and enable you to cope when you find yourself feeling stressed or anxious.
What to Expect at your Hypnotherapy Session
At your initial consultation we’ll establish the reasons behind your stress triggers, how you feel and how you react. Then once you’re confident and happy with the hypnosis process and what to expect we’ll move onto the hypnotherapy session.
I’ll guide you gently into a deep, relaxed state so your mind is more open to suggestion. This state is similar to a light sleep, but your mind will be very focused and more able to respond to suggestions. I’ll then ask you to think of a time when you’ve felt stressed and unable to cope. When you can focus on the physical sensations and the triggers of your stress at that time, I’ll offer calming words or suggestions. I will discuss these with you prior to the session so you know what to expect. They will enable you to cope better and manage your feelings when that situation arises again.
